SKUDAI, March 13: - The Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) praised Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s effort in organizing the UTM International Johor Horse Show starting March 10. Executive Secretary of Equestrian Association of Malaysia (EAM) Mejar (Rtd) Yap Mou Soon said, the UTM International Johor Horse Show would be a platform to attract more riders especially students from higher education institutions in the country.

According to him, his organization was satisfied with UTM’s successful organization of the event which attracted many participants, including from New Zealand and Switzerland to take part. The EAM is the governing body for the development and promotion of equestrian events in the country and represents the interest of Malaysian equestrian events in all matters concerned with the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI).
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato 'Ir Dr Zaini Ujang said, UTM will continue to organise the equestrian sports next year by inviting more participants, especially from Asian universities. In the show jumping event, Nabil Ismail from Cempaka Equestrian International College showed his true performance when he won the Sultan Ibrahim Cup and Mahkota Cup.

In the Sultan Ibrahim Cup event, Nabil and Praveen Nair from the Bukit Jalil Sports School were forced to "jump off" to determine first and second placing after two crippling amount of time and the same penalty. The UTM endurance team led by Dr Zaini swept all four first places in the 20 kilometer (km) race. Dr Zaini who became the first Vice-Chancellor of UTM to participate in the events by riding Blue Bronco, won first place with 2 hours 10 minutes and 31 seconds.
The 40 km race was won by Mohd Fithri Dzuklifli from the Melaka Equine Club clocked 3 hours, 28 minutes and 37 seconds and 80 km won by Wan Mohammad Wan Kamarulzaman from Penn Endurance and Equestrain Club. He recorded 6 hours 49 minutes and 27 seconds.
